Can You File My Personal Tax Return?

We are asked a lot to file tax returns for employed and self-employed people (contractors, solopreneurs, etc.). While totally possible, this article is to clarify what you would be paying us for.

Nowadays there are a plethora of software that quite frankly, make it simple (i.e. Simple Tax). Whether you are an employee or self employed, the softwares can walk you through the process at a very reasonable price.

Think of it like changing your car's tires - not too difficult, but for some it's not worth it to get their hands dirty. Same concept with filing your own taxes. If they are filed, they're filed. It just took a little extra know how.

At times, there are a few deductions people miss, but hiring us won't likely pay for itself unless one (or more) of these situations apply:

1. You are growing a business and need help structuring financial operations

2. Doing your own accounting and bookkeeping sounds awful

3. You are growing a business and your time is better spent elsewhere

4. An extra set of eyes on your business will keep you accountable and in compliance

5. You are incorporated

Once you involve us in your business on top of the taxes, that is when we'll excel and the payoff is clear.

So, if you want to hire us to just do your taxes, know that we probably won't save you time as we'll need to request information and documents from you. Or that we won't save you money, as we don't have any magical deductions available to us that aren't available to you. Very unfortunate truth, but it's true!
